Wild and Wonderful West Virginia Welcomes Waterfall Trail

Welcome all to the brand-new West Virginia Waterfall Trail – the nation’s first ever waterfall

trail with over two dozen scenic waterfalls. Tourists and locals can visit 29 waterfalls, which are 29 of the most popular out of over 200 total waterfalls within the wild and wonderful state. With over 70,000 acres of land, this gives people a chance to explore the brand-new national park, the New River Gorge. According to the National Park Service, the New River is “rich in cultural and natural history” as one of the oldest rivers on the continent. Along with the newly popular national park and preserve, people can visit some of the familiar and more popular locations along the trail, including Blackwater and Sandstone falls.

“We are blessed to be able to enjoy beauty beyond all comparison in West Virginia, and our

waterfalls are no different. I encourage all West Virginians to get involved with this fun initiative and I thank our Tourism department for the great work they’re doing to help people rediscover their love for the magnificent outdoors in our great state.”

Governor Jim Justice stated.

Just this year alone, West Virginia has gained national attention as a top tourism destination by several major travel magazines and companies, such as Lonely Planet, TIME, Frommers, and Condé Nast.

West Virginia Tourism Secretary Chelsea Ruby included, “Breathtaking waterfalls are

everywhere in our 1.5 million acres of parks and public lands, making this trail a must-

experience activity for adventure seekers this summer. From simple boardwalks to hilly treks, we want to make your efforts to experience our falls worth every mile.”

With this new trail, The West Virginia Department of Tourism will reward these waterfall

enthusiasts with exclusive gear and prizes as they follow the trail. You can sign up for the
