John Henry is a name that most West Virginians, and lots of people around the country,
know by heart. The legend about his successful competition against the steam drill has been shared and retold thousands of times. Take a load off and enjoy the three-day festival that remembers his amazing feat – John Henry Days 2022!
From July 8 th to the 10 th , visit Talcott’s main locations that honors John Henry and take part in several activities planned for the weekend. Take time and look around the John Henry Museum and buy something at the gift shop! If museums aren’t your thing, then join the crowd and listen to live music by the Great Bend Tunnel! If you want some good food and want to check out some art, stop by the many food vendors while watching someone carve a work of art using a chainsaw!
The Grand Parade, on July 9 th , will celebrate the 25 th Anniversary of the festival and also honor the life of previous Grand Parade Marshal, Bill Dillon. Enjoy watching all the parade floats roll by and look for your favorite! Following the Grand Parade later that night will be the performance by The TAMS from Atlanta, GA. Topping the charts in the 60s through the 80s, they can sure top your hearts and give you plenty of entertainment. Following The TAMS, are one of people’s many favorite activities during July – fireworks, starting at 10:00 p.m.
Take some time to relax and attend the church service at the Great Bend Tunnel! Hear an
amazing sermon by Rev. Nathan Smith from River Valley Baptist Church while taking in the
amazing creation from John Henry himself. Make sure to bring yourself a lawn chair!
If you’re into cars, especially vintage or sport cars, visit the John Henry Days Car Show on July 10th from 11:00 to 4:00 p.m.!
Drop by to see the line up of classic cars brought out just so you can enjoy them. Relive your top moments in one of the vintage cars or find a car that youhave never seen before! There is always something for people to enjoy at a car show! Awardsand trophies for the car show will be given at 3:00 p.m.
If you’re feeling lucky, on July 10 th , take part in the John Henry Days “Pluck-A-Duck!” Test your luck and buy a duck – or two or more. Your duck may have a chance to win big! Prizes will be available for the top 60 participants, including a $2,000 cash prize for 1 st place! For the other 59 winners, there will be awesome prizes to win!
